28. march 2009 / PATRIK ELIAS SCORES LONE GOAL IN LOSS TO CAROLINA
Patrik Elias brought a packed Prudential Center to its feet late in the first period of Saturday night's contest with the Carolina Hurricanes with his 31st goal of the season. He took a pass from Brian Gionta in the high slot and whipped a wrist shot towards the far post beating goaltender Cam Ward who couldn't react in time. Patrik now has 5 goals in 8 games. The Devils held on to the 1-0 lead until the Hurricanes notched two late third period goals for the 2-1 win. The Devils will try to shake their four game winless streak Monday night against rival New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Devils, who have already clinched a playoff birth, are in a tight battle with the Washington Capitals for second place in the Eastern Conference with just one point separating the two teams.
